About Us

Not just stuck in the past, but looking to the future

Little Missenden Church is not only an historic monument, a memorial to the past, but stands today as it has for more than a millennium, the sign of a living church, a house of prayer, the dwelling place of God.

Who we are

We are the Anglican Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Little Missenden, part of the Diocese of Oxford, within the Church of England. Our Parish serves the communities of Little Missenden, Hyde Heath and Little Kingshill, nestled in the Chiltern Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), in Buckinghamshire, England.

Our style of worship

We are an inclusive and broad church which seeks to reach out to young and old, seasoned Anglicans, and newcomers alike - indeed people of all faiths and none are always welcome. Our ancient Parish Church in Little Missenden is over 1046 years old, and continues to offer three services every Sunday at 8am, 10am, and 6pm. Two thirds of these still maintain the Book of Common Prayer (1662) at 8am and at Choral Evensong at 6pm, whilst the  10 am service is a mix of BCP and 'Common Worship'. Once a month during term-time we also have a Family Service called 'Sundays@10', at 10am for half an hour, for children and families.

We have a daughter church, dedicated to St Andrew (a disciple of St John the Baptist, who brought Peter to Christ), in Hyde Heath, which offers, alternately, Morning Prayer and Holy Communion every Sunday at 9.15am. Please check for variations to these times on our homepage.

“The best church I have ever seen (and I've seen a few!)”
A Simms, Paris, France

"Wonderfully peaceful."

Chris, Melbourne, Australia
“Having visited the church regularly as a child, I went back to view the newly discovered and refurbished paintings. Simply stunning; the technology that has been used to make everything easier to see is very simple but so effective. It’s a beautiful church.”
